I see leaves lopsided before me
but still there is growth. Whispers
from the flowers of the peace lily,

“Water me. Tend to me for I’m not able
to pour that thirst quenching food onto myself.”
The peace lily does not know

that it has roots and capillaries.
The peace lily does not know
it is a master of photosynthesis, a product

of evolution, a beautiful creature that yes,
from time to time needs external love
and care, yet manages to thrive

through it’s own marvellous doing.
We humans would do well
to study the kingdom around us.
